How to dress up a plain Pashmina: with a feathered hair clip

A feather hair clip, tucked into the side of hijab, gives my plain pashmina instant-sass. Believe it or not (it is hard to tell from this pic) it looked good. Good enough for a few non-muslims in the shop to compliment the look. They weren't thrilled on my play around with a mini top-hat toy-hat but I thought it'd look cool with some tulle... LOL. But back to the hair clip---it looked good.

Hijab Accessory: Flower Pins

Jana over at Hijab Style recently posted about flower pins as a hijab accessory. I DO really love this Turkish bridal style, but, well, it's not hijab, it's a headscarf. But looking at it, I was thinking, I coul TOTALLY ROCK that style with a niqab. I sometimes wear my flip niqab the side. It blows that way anyway since I am almost always losing my top stick pin by the end of the day (to the hazard of people everywhere---sorry Boxie's Mom for the pins I left in your airmcahir and habibi for the crystal encrusted hijab pin that impaled your fancy new sneaks). Anyways, I'd just sort of flip the niqab a little to the side and then slide a brooch or flower pin in as if I was wearing it at my ear. Makes a black niqab less scary to non-muslims who might not know whether I am a funeral-goer or not (cuz I love my black abayas and shaylas and niqabs). To me, it is very flamenco.

Hijab Style With Earrings

Whenever I do a hijab style with earrings (my earrings are always long chandelier or hoops not studs!) I wear an al-amira hijab underneath so that baby hairs, temples, neck and ears are fully covered. I can also innovate an al-amira by wrapping a shayla this Egyptian way of styling.......First you tie the shayla behind your head leaving the two ends free...... then bring the ends around the front and pin at the side of your head. It should be snug and look like this---minus one hijab.The problem with the earrings style is sisters generally leave the look just like this. What you get is a neck gaps and the bottom of the earlobes protuding out. ...So I usually wrap a draped hijab style over with another shayla, like the Qatari style so the ears and temples are covered and the al-amira or Egyptian wrap blow covers the neck and hairline but leaves the earrings free. Has always worked for me, since I don't feel comfy with iffy style picture just above this paragraph.(here's the Qatari wrap show how the earring hang---but this style is lacking neck coverage)

And some sisters are very creative and pin the earrings completely outside of their hijabs but this look doesn't work for me personally.

RULE: When it comes to hijab, don't compromise it for a style---make a style into hijab.
